MANALO, DE LUNA VYING IN FUJAIRAH WORLD 8-BALL ELIMS

MARLON "Marvelous" Manalo and Jeffrey "The Bull" De Luna, both eyeing slots to the tournament proper when the qualifying round of the 2008 World 8-Ball Championships gets going on April 12 to 16 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

"Ready na ako," said the Mandaluyong resident Manalo, who placed runner-up to eventual winner Efren "Bata" Reyes in the 2004 edition World 8-ball meet.

Defending World 8-ball champion Ronato Alcano, last year's runner-up Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo and qualifiers Antonio "Ga-Ga" Gabica and Elvis Calasang are among the Filipino seeded in the main draw which begins on April 18 and will ends on April 25.

Manalo is fresh from successful US trip beating American Rodney "Rockets" Morris, 15-10, in the finals of 3rd International Pool Tour in Hollywood Studio in Los Angeles, California enroute the winner-take-all $5,000 purse.

De Luna, meanwhile, is one of the dozen Filipino participants who are campaigning in yesterday's ongoing 2008 Japan 9-Ball Open in Tokyo, Japan. Another Filipino ace Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan, is the defending Japan 9-Ball Open Champion.

Manalo, Gabica and De Luna are members of the newly-formed Philippine Billiards Development Foundation (PBDF) along with Rene Mar David, 2006 Sydney World Junior Quarter-Finalist.
