JOVEN BUSTAMANTE IN SWEET 16

JOVEN CLAIMED ANOTHER HEAVYWEIGHT SCALP TO BOOK SWEET 16

FILIPINO Joven "The Shark" Bustamante claimed another heavyweight scalp this time against Satoshi Kawabata ng Japan, 11-9, to arrange a "Sweet 16" showdown with Karl Boyes of England who stunned Konstantin Stepanov of Russia, 11-4, last night in the ongoing 2007 Philippine World Pool Championships at the Big Dome.

The 28-year-old Joven, who upset 2005 World Pool Champion Wu Chia-ching of Taiwan, last Thursday was cold in the opening match with Kawabata taking a 3-1 lead going to 5-3 advantage. Joven managed to tie the match at 5-all but Kawabata put a 7-5 lead before Joven tied the match again at 7-all.

"Nakita ko na ang laro niya eh. Magaling siyang player kaya dapat mag-ingat." Said Joven in the local media yesterday. "Sa practice ko ay ok naman. Kinabahan ako," said Joven who never looked back after a 9-7 lead.

Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP) president Ernesto Fajardo lauded Joven, " Hope magtuloy-tuloy ang panalo niya (Joven)," said Fajardo. (MARLON BERNARDINO)
