MARLON MANALO DETHRONES JEFF DE LUNA

MARLON BEATS JEFF DE LUNA IN POOL SHOWDOWN

Marlon "Marvelous" Manalo dethrones two-time king-of-the-table Jeffrey "The Bull" De Luna 11-5 in Pool Showdown Match of the week Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Billiards Zone.

Manalo who chose 9-ball as the game to be played posted seven racks win after winning the lag in their race-to-11 winner's break format.

The 23-yr old De Luna's first win came on the eight rack after Manalo committed a foul. Another foul shot for Manalo in the 9th frame prompted De Luna the two-time "Hari ng Mesa" champion to post his second win.

However, De Luna's power breaks failed to give him a good spread prompting Manalo to return to the table. Manalo resumed his winning streak, making two wins in three racks (10-3) and needing one more win to wrap up the game.

But with three balls remaining in the table, Manalo sank the green ball and accidentally the cue ball went in the edge of the pocket that forced him to use a cushion shot.

De Luna did not waste his opportunity to come back in the game as he snatched two racks to cut down the lead 5-10 but still the breaks did not favor him and the game went to Manalo together with the cash prize of $1,000.00 and the title "The new king-of-the-table."

" Malaking factor 'yung nakalamang agad tayo sa laro kaya nakuha agad natin ang momentum," said the 31-year-old Mandaluyong ace Manalo, who is scheduled to spearhead the country's pool and snooker bid in the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand on December.

The 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball silver medallist De Luna was crowned as the first Pool Showdown "Hari ng Mesa" when he trounced Ricky Zerna (11-4) and defends his title against Panfilo Damuag Jr. (11-7)

Pool Showdown is a joint production of Raya Sports and ABC-5. It is broadcast every Tuesday and Saturday at 8:00 to 10-30 in the evening.
