DUCANES BEATS DE OCAMPO
VETERAN CAMPAIGNER Godofredo "Boy Cotabato" Ducanes disposed of new comer Jomar de Ocampo, 9-8, to emerge champion in the 2008 Winner Take-All 9-Ball Tournament held last Wednesday at the Bowling Inn on Taft Avenue, Manila.
Trailling behind two racks going to the final canto (6-8), Ducanes swept the next three racks to seal the win in the race-to-9, winner's break format.
On his way to the crown and the P58,000 top prize in this 24 player's field, Ducanes beat Panfilo Damuag, 7-4, Luis Saberdo, 7-5, Mark Mendoza, 7-2, and Jech Limen,7-3, in the event organized by Rolly "Lando" Vicente, Troy Danao and Ish Caparras.
"Sinuwerte lamang sa bandang huli, " said Ducanes.
Meanwhile, the elimination series for 9-ball handicapping tournament gets underway at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.
The champion will get the lion's share of P20,000, the runner-up P10,000, and the third placer P5,000 with all trophies.
The elimination begins last Feb. 13, and will ends on Feb.23. The tournament proper set on Feb. 24.
